Advanced prediction of tailings suspension properties as delivered to tailings storage facilities (TSFs)
Project Number: P1278
Status: Open to sponsors
Amira Program Manager: Silvia Black
This project will transform the approach taken to modelling particle aggregation processes suited to tailings of broad composition.
Lead researchers CSIRO will use a new mathematical approach designed by the organisation (and advanced in collaboration with the University of Western Australia) to further refine the model for real tailings feed with known variations in dewatering performance.
The outputs will be captured in a new modelling tool that will assist with predictions on full-scale performance.
Benefits to sponsors:
- An enhanced ability to quantify potential impacts of upstream flowsheet variations (sorting, grinding, alternative lixiviants) when limited samples are available.
- Scope to predict ‘what if’ scenarios for feed variations in a timely manner.
- Efficiencies in tailings dewatering unit operations that enhance the properties of streams delivered to tailings storage facilities.
