Introduction:
The main objective of this course is to de-mystify flotation plant design and set up and short circuit key aspects of running and managing flotation operations including sulphide, oxide, multi-mineral and challenging circuits.
Experiences from past plant superintending, technical management and research management for multiple operations, commodities and geographies:
- 6 practical case studies, detailed fundamentals
- Economics of flotation, combined assurance and mineral endowment optimization
- Setting up the circuit based on geology, mineral and gangue mineralogy, metal association, rheology, thermodynamics, kinetics, geography and economic expectations among others
- Mathematical models of flotation circuits
- Process Control Instrumentation, Simulation, Data management
- Automation algorithms – chemistry and other opportunities
- Troubleshooting, evaluation and optimization
- Sustainability and safety aspects of Flotation
- Water quality, reticulation, S:L separation and common challenges
- Managing a flotation circuit/plant profitably
- Answering 50 questions of the most common challenges and opportunities

“Processing is science and engineering, and where it’s not exact, its ably augmented by a good peer reviewed, contextualized and validated body of knowledge for over 100 years. Therefore, leaving processing only to inexperience and luck, is sub optimal”. The right mixture of youthful zeal and experience is needed to enhance the ability to trial new ideas, while not repeating expensive mistakes.”
