We are thrilled to announce that two leading mining companies — AngloGold Ashanti (Geita Gold Mine) and Barrick (Acacia Mining) — have officially signed up as sponsors for the Amira P1322 East African eXploration Initiative (EAXI).
Building on the success of the West African eXploration Initiative (WAXI), EAXI is a 4-year collaborative research program led by the Centre for Exploration Targeting (CET) at the University of Western Australia, in partnership with Amira Global and a consortium of top-tier universities and research institutions. Contributing research organisations include: Agate Project Limited (Australia), Universite de Lorraine (France), Midlands State University (Zimbabwe), James Cook University (Australia), University of Johannesburg (South Africa), Université Paul Sabatier Toulouse III (France) Géosciences Environnement Toulouse GET-OMP Toulouse (France), IRD (France), Université Côte d’Azur (France), Cardiff University / Prifysgol Caerdydd (UK), Curtin University (Australia), CSIRO Mineral Resources (Australia), Mines Paris – PSL (France), Kansas State University (USA), University of Rwanda (Rwanda), and BRGM Bureau de Recherches Géologiques et Minières (France).
EAXI’s Mission: To enhance understanding of the base metal and gold exploration potential across East Africa — focusing initially on Tanzania, Kenya, Uganda, Zimbabwe, Rwanda, Burundi, Malawi, and Mozambique. Through integrated research, data harmonisation, and capacity building, EAXI seeks to unlock the geological “anatomy” of the region and improve exploration success.
Program Highlights:
Regional geological integration and mineral systems analysis (Au, Li, and rare metals)
- High-quality regional datasets and geodynamic mapping
- Training and professional capacity building for local geoscientists
- Collaboration between industry, academia, and government
We are actively recruiting additional sponsors and invite companies, and explorers passionate about advancing exploration in East Africa to join this transformative journey.
