Program Overview

P1358B is an Amira research project aimed at developing a geometallurgically-informed model for designing an efficient processing flowsheet to extract critical minerals from sulfide and iron ore tailings. While prioritizing critical mineral recovery, it will also assess the potential use of other main valuable components to enhance economic viability and sustainability by maximizing resource utilization and minimizing waste. By implementing advanced mineral processing techniques, we seek to unlock economic value, enhance Mineral Resource recovery, and address the growing demand for critical minerals.

As demand for critical minerals continues to rise and new high-grade deposits become increasingly scarce, reprocessing existing tailings presents a significant opportunity. Many legacy tailings contain untapped mineral value due to past technological limitations or historical market conditions. This project focuses on recovering those resources while improving resource efficiency and environmental outcomes.

A key advantage of the geometallurgically-informed model developed through this project is its adaptability. The methodologies and techniques established can be tailored and applied to a wide range of tailings and residues from both mining and processing activities. This flexibility enhances the project’s impact and applicability across various contexts, offering a broader solution to tailings management as well as technical challenges in resource recovery, such as mineralogical complexity and the optimization of processing techniques.
