R&D Forum – Enabling Futures Session

4 May, 2021 by zeme capa

One of Amira Global’s defined purpose is ensuring the delivery of new data, knowledge, technologies, products and services in order to have a positive impact on the mining industry. In order to achieve this we consider potential pathways to implementation during the development of programs and delivery of projects.

As part of Amira Global’s inaugural R&D forum, we are excited to introduce members of the Amira CoLabs initiative who will showcase the capabilities and expertise they bring to the industry as part of a global network of test facilities. These include the Centre for Excellence in Mining (CEMI) and NORCAT, both based in Canada, Axis House based in South Africa and operating globally and RMIT in Australia.

The Enabling Futures R&D Forum session will also include a roundtable on “Collaboration for innovation and implementation – how do we enable the future?” featuring CEMI’s Douglas Morrison & Charles Nyabeze, NORCAT’s Don Duval and RMIT’s Tim McLennan who are all passionate advocates for collaboration as the best way to achieve impactful change in the industry. Hear their thoughts and contribute your own!

“Cyber: Trouble at the IT/OT working face” is the topic presented by leading cyber security experts Alison Howe, Leslely Seebeck, Max Heinrich and Emma Wise.

Don’t miss out! Register now for this Member-only Amira Global R&D forum.

Australian Automation and Robotics Precinct – Focus Group

5 April, 2021 by zeme capa

DevelopmentWA Logo

The WA Government funded ($20M) Australian Automation and Robotics Precinct (AARP) is an exciting development in the fast moving world of Automation and Robotics and will offer a much-needed test facility and collaboration space for multiple sectors including the minerals sector.

Being developed by DevelopmentWA, Amira Global has been a strong advocate and supporter of this facility to grow into its global network of test facilities under its CoLabs program. The precinct is located within the greater Perth metropolitan area and close to the innovation community in WA.

On behalf of DevelopmentWA, we invite our members and partners in the minerals sector to participate in an online Focus Group on 23 April 2021 which will help define and tailor the precinct to serve the needs of the sector, both nationally and internationally.

Please contact Kelli Howell (ph: 0407-069-324 ) to register your interest.

Melbourne’s RMIT University joins Amira’s CoLabs program

27 January, 2021 by zeme capa

Amira Global is pleased to welcome Melbourne’s RMIT University to its CoLabs program following the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding this week.

The MOU between Amira Global and RMIT paves the way for mining and mining supply companies to use the university’s test facilities to de-risk innovation and technology entering the industry.

RMIT is a valued addition to the Amira CoLabs Program, which connects a network of test facilities around the world.

Members will have facilitated access to RMIT’s test labs on a case-by-case basis.

Amira Global CEO Dr Jacqui Coombes said facilities, such as those offered by RMIT, are helping the mining industry implement technology of economic, social, and environmental value.

“We are extremely fortunate to have RMIT as part of our global network. It is the first university in the CoLabs Program, and we welcome their contribution to fast-tracking the best solutions possible into industry.”

RMIT Deputy Vice-Chancellor Research and Innovation and Vice-President, Professor Calum Drummond, said industry collaboration was a key focus for the university and an important ingredient for producing high impact research.

“Industry is embedded in everything we do and a key way that we’re supporting Australia’s economic recovery,” Prof Drummond said.

“We look forward to codesigning and co-creating solutions with new industry partners.”

RMIT’s Advanced Manufacturing Precinct already has a solid track record in helping industry partners with high value-add technology, such as rapid prototyping and repairs of metal parts in mining using 3D printers.

“Mining companies will find a range of relevant research capability at RMIT, backed by world-class facilities and expertise. Some of these areas include circular economy and sustainability expertise, environmental custodianship, resource processing technology, materials engineering, advanced manufacturing, Industry 4.0, geospatial science and social policy,” he said.

The Amira CoLabs program is designed to:

  • Accelerate collaboration across the ecosystem
  • Develop pathways for Amira projects within the Futures Programs to enable accelerated translation and implementation of R&D outcomes
  • Develop and strengthen pathways for scaling and commercialisation of R&D outcomes
  • De-risk R&D outcomes ahead of on-site deployment.

For more information on the MOU or the CoLabs program, please contact Anil Subramanya.

Amira CoLabs Program

13 January, 2021 by zeme capa

The Amira CoLabs program aims to connect a network of test facilities across the globe.  The program is a core component of Amira’s Enabling Futures Program and is designed to:

  • Accelerate collaboration across the ecosystem
  • Develop pathways for Amira projects within the Futures Programs to enable accelerated translation and implementation of R&D outcomes
  • Develop and strengthen pathways for scaling and commercialisation of R&D outcomes
  • De-risk R&D outcomes ahead of on-site deployment.
  • Develop a global community of test facilities

These test facilities span the mine value chain and include automation and robotics precincts, underground and open pit test beds, laboratories, digital spaces and innovation hubs. Amira Members will have facilitated access to facilities, allowing them to accelerate the development and implementation of technology with the least disruption to on-site operations.

The overarching purpose of this access and integration is to develop pathways to implementation for R&D and innovation through communities learning together from experimentation, piloting, and upscaling.

To find out how you can plug into this network that includes NORCAT, and the Australian Automation and Robotics Precinct (AARP) contact Dr Anil Subramanya.
